A large part of our residential work is luxury homes with a steel structure.
In a steel and concrete home the load-bearing frame is structural steel, while the foundation, the floor slabs and the stairs are reinforced concrete. Buildings of this kind behave very well in strong earthquakes, because the frame is light and steel is ductile. They are built to last well over a century and, in some cases, such as tall buildings or buildings with very long spans, they are also cost-effective.
In general they are not cheaper than the reinforced concrete frame with brick infill walls that most Greek homes are built with. They are safer, faster to build and longer lasting.
We can also build from your own approved architectural design, up to whatever stage you choose, with or without our structural design. We prefer, though, to prevent flaws, unnecessary costs and mistakes by being involved from the start, as structural advisors next to your architect.

In 25 years we have often seen clients choose engineers or builders with no experience, not only in steel but in construction as a whole. That is why we now take on homes by referral, or when they have something special architecturally, and with a relatively high budget. A steel and concrete home from start to finish is not easy, even for us.
The right way to start a home with us is from the permit and the designs. From the start we give an indicative cost with a safety margin. At that stage nobody can know exactly what the client will finally build, or what the market will look like when construction starts, because prices keep changing.
It also makes sense for us to take on the construction up to the walls, together with the designs and the permit. From there you can continue on your own or have us continue on a cost-plus basis. A lump-sum contract for the whole house is rarely agreed and costs considerably more.
If you continue after the walls, it can be easier than you might think. Our designs come with detailed specifications and construction drawings, and we support you as supervising engineers even if someone else does the rest of the work. If your budget allows, we can also take the whole project on a lump-sum contract from the start.

We believe in close collaboration between the architect and the civil engineer, from the first sketches and the first ideas about form and function.

Our structural designs are prepared by engineers with many years of experience in steel and steel and concrete buildings, using current analysis and design software.
