composite construction
Composite construction combines a structural steel frame with reinforced concrete in the foundation, the floor slabs and the stairs.
The low weight and ductility of steel give the building very good behavior in earthquakes. With a sound design and proper corrosion protection, its service life is very long.
It is not the cheapest option. In tall buildings and buildings with long spans, though, its cost is often comparable to a reinforced concrete frame, and construction time is much shorter. That is why the method, widely used abroad, is gaining ground in Greece.
We do not combine a steel frame with brick infill walls. Steel is more flexible than concrete, and brick walls can be damaged in a strong earthquake. For the exterior walls we build a drywall system with ETICS external thermal insulation (EIFS), and inside we use drywall partitions, or thick traditional stone walls where local tradition calls for them, always with the connections the design specifies.

From the start
We prefer to start a project from the building permit and its designs. After 25 years we are confident this helps both the quality and the economy of the project.
Architect and civil engineer together
We believe in close collaboration between the architect and the civil engineer, from the first sketches and the first ideas about form and function.
Safety
Our structural designs are prepared by engineers with many years of experience in steel and steel and concrete buildings, using current analysis and design software.
